Scholarships

There are hundreds of thousands of scholarships available to high school students. We list below just a few scholarships currently accepting applications, as well as some links you can use to search for scholarships that might meet your particular situation. We do not endorse any of the
websites, but simply provide them for your convenience.  Additional helpful links are provided below.

Need money for your education? Check out https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa.  All seniors planning on attending 4-year, 2-year, and technical colleges should complete the FAFSA in October of their senior year, in order to be considered for scholarships and financial aid available through their future college or university.

Local Scholarships

Certificate of Residency
Residents of Idaho may qualify for county support if attending College of Southern Idaho, North Idaho College, or College of Western Idaho.  You could receive a $500 per semester benefit with an approved Certificate of Residency.  To apply for this benefit, check your college's website for
their form, fill it out, and take it to your County Clerk's office.

Ainsworth
The trust of the late David and Elizabeth Ainsworth provides scholarships to graduating seniors at Salmon High School, to be used at the schools of their choice.  Selection is based on academic performance, clarity of future plans and financial needs.  Click here for the application.

Almira Capps - 4-H
Applicants must have participated in 4-H a total of five years, two years of which were in high school, with the last year in Lemhi County 4-H.  Those students with a 4-H background are encouraged to apply.

American Legion Auxiliary General Studies Traditional
One scholarship, either traditional or non-traditional, in the amount of $1000 will be awarded at summer convention. See rules for applying.

American Legion Auxiliary Local Scholarship
This scholarship is for Salmon Jr. Sr. High School Graduating Seniors.  You must submit a letter to introduce yourself, complete an essay, and submit three letters of recommendation.  Click here to learn more and for the application.

Architectural/Engineering Scholarship - $2000
This scholarship is for SJSHS Seniors who have been accepted into the fall semester at either WSU, U of I, or MSU, majoring in either Architecture or an architecturally associated Engineering program.  Click here to learn more.

Backstage Dance
To apply for this scholarship you must have a 3.0 GPA, write a 500 word essay on leadership, and must be a high school senior graduating from Salmon Jr.-Sr. High School.

Beta Sigma Phi
This scholarship is awarded to a Lemhi County graduating Senior in good standing with a GPA of 2.0 or more. Applications available here or in the counselor's office.

Brackett/Monoyios Salmon, Idaho Scholarship Fund
The Brackett/Monoyios Salmon, Idaho Scholarship is in the amount of $5,000.00 per year for a maximum of four years.  This scholarship is open to students from Salmon High School, Salmon Alternative School, Leadore High School, or any other Lemhi County school including home schooled students.  Applicant must have a GPA of at least 3.75 on a scale of 4.0 and be in the top 10% of competing applicants. ACT composite score must be 26 or above.

Buzz Wing, Assistant Fire Chief - Memorial Scholarship
The Salmon Volunteer Fire Department will award a $500.00 scholarship to at least one student graduating from Salmon High School, Salmon Alternative School or an accredited high school program. This scholarship is open to all graduating seniors with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher. The Scholarship will be awarded based on a combination of GPA, Community Service, Extracurricular Activities, and the quality of the written essay.

Clyde Phillips Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in memory of Clyde Phillips through the generosity of Gene Hussey. Community service and involvement will be considered.   Intended field of study must be Agriculture related.

Custer Telephone Broadband Services LLC
This $1,000 scholarship is designed to assist graduating seniors of Salmon High School and enrolled College students (former graduates of Salmon High School) who wish to continue their education at a college, university or trade school. Dr. Herbert K.W. & Ramona W. Bradley Memorial Scholarship
Applicant must be a Senior in good standing at Salmon High School and must be accepted to a college or university.  Applicant must have taken advanced coursework in math and/or science.

East Idaho Credit Union
The purpose of the East Idaho Credit Union scholarship program is to award one $1,000 and three $500 scholarships to East Idaho Credit Union members to aid them in their pursuit of higher education. Scholarships are to be applied to the cost of tuition, books, and/or lab fees. Hans F. Koenig Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established by the staff of The Upper Salmon Basin Watershed Program in memory of Hans Koenig. It has been made possible by the sacrifice and caring of multiple donors.  Applicant must be a qualifying High School student, including Home Schooled students OR a student presently enrolled in college, university or technical school.  GPA 2.30 or greater (provide official transcript).

IAC - Idaho Association of Counties
Children of county employees working more than 20 hours per week and the children and grandchildren of county elected officials by the Idaho Association of Counties Scholarship Fund may apply for this scholarship.  Recipients must attend any Idaho college, university or vocational/technical school full-time for the upcoming academic year and be enrolled in either an academic or vocational education program leading towards a degree or certification.  Copy and paste the following link in your browser to access this scholarship.  http://idcounties.org/iac-scholarship-fund/

Idaho Elks Teenager of the Year Award Program
These grants will be awarded to any high school student (not limited to graduating seniors), who has distinguished themselves by working in their community, volunteering in their community, and helping people in their community.  Applicants are required to have a 3.0 grade average but are not judged on grades beyond meeting this standard. Idaho Horse Council Scholarship
The Idaho Horse Council, a non-profit association, is composed of organizations across the state involved in the equine industry. Idaho Outfitters and Guides (IOGA)
The Salmon Chapter of the Idaho Outfitters and Guides Association would like to give back to the communities that Fran Tonsmeire and Michelle Zettel devoted so much time and effort to through this scholarship. Applicant must reside in Lemhi or Custer County and be a senior in good standing at Salmon High School, Salmon Alternative School, Leadore High School, Challis High School or an accredited Home School program. This scholarship is also open to college students.  A GPA of 2.50 or greater is required.

Idaho Power Scholarship
Any student residing in the Idaho Power service area who is in the graduating class of anaccredited high school or its rated equivalent, plans full-time attendance at any accredited Idaho or Oregon two or four year college, university, or vocational-technical school, and has a minimum

Jackie Caivano
This scholarship is open to all graduating seniors from Salmon, Leadore, Challis or Mackay HighSchools with a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or higher.  Scholarship information is available on the Salmon-Challis National Forest website.  Copy the link to access the scholarship.

Jason Armstrong
The Salmon Co-ed Softball Association will award a $500 scholarship to one student. This scholarship is open to all graduating seniors with a GPA of 2.5 or higher.  It will be awarded based on a combination of GPA, community service, extracurricular activities and quality of written
essay.  Deadline - April 20, 2019

Kay Stone Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is for Salmon High School graduates who have completed their second year or more of college in the areas of education or nursing.  You must include an official college or university transcript with your cumulative grade point average.  See application.

Kelly Winton Idaho College or University Scholarship
This is a 4-year renewable scholarship. Applicant must be a Senior in good standing at Salmon High School or Salmon Alternative School (2.5 or better GPA) and planning on attending an Idaho college or university.

Kelly Winton Vocational-Technical Scholarship
Applicant must be a Senior in good standing at Salmon High School or Salmon Alternative School (2.5 or better GPA) and must be accepted at a Vocational/Technical school.

Kiwanis Scholarship
The Salmon Kiwanis Club is offering scholarships to students who demonstrate a strong commitment towards community service.  To apply for this scholarship, students need to briefly describe their voluntary community service projects and the number of hours they have put in.  In addition,
students are to write a 500-1000 word essay on why community service is important to them.
Deadline - Hand deliver per instructions by April 19th. If mailed, it must be postmarked no later than April 12th.

4-H Scholarships
To apply (and be considered) for a 4-H Scholarship, you must submit an application to the University of Idaho. This does not mean that you have to accept the University of Idaho as your institution for higher education to receive the 4-H scholarship. Lemhi County 4-H Basket Scholarship
Applicants must have participated in 4-H a total of 5 years, two years of which were in high school with the last year in Lemhi County 4-H.  Everyone with a 4-H background is encouraged to apply. See guidelines and requirements.

Lemhi County 4-H & FFA Win Turner Ag Scholarship
The purpose of this scholarship is to assist youth in furthering their education and/or training in an Ag related field that could be utilized in Lemhi County. Deadline - March 29, 2019

Lemhi County Cattlewomen's Scholarship for Graduating or Graduated Students
This scholarship is for residents of Lemhi County or the Pahsimeroi Valley who have graduated from Salmon, Leadore, or Challis High Schools.  Recipients must be accepted to college studying in an agricultural related field.

Lemhi County Sheriff Posse Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior of SHS who is a member of the Salmon High School Rodeo Club, FFA or pursuing a career in law enforcement, agriculture or animal science fields. Applicant must be in good standing with a GPA of 2.5 or more.

Nep & Mary Lynch Scholarship
This scholarship was established through the generosity of Nep and Mary Ellen  Lynch.  Student must have a 2.5 GPA or above and must be a senior in good standing in the Salmon School District.

P.E.O. International Organization Promoting Female Education
Apply for this scholarship if you are a graduating female senior with at least a 2.75 GPA.

Salmon Elks National Foundation
Several scholarships are available through the Elks National Foundation. Visit the Elk's Foundation website for more information.  Deadline varies for each available scholarship.

Salmon Elks Lodge Local Scholarship
This scholarship, in the amount of $1,500, will be awarded to a graduate from Salmon High School. You must have a 2.75 GPA or better to submit an application.

Salmon Women’s Gutter Gussie
The Salmon Women’s Gutter Gussie Club offers two $500 scholarship awards.  To be eligible you must have had good scholastic records and practice good sportsmanship in any sport you have participated in.

This $500 scholarship is available to young men and women.

Steele-Reese Foundation
This scholarship is applicable to 13 western colleges for residents of Lemhi and Custer Counties.
Contact the college you are applying to for amounts and deadlines.
Amount varies depending on the University.  Lewis and Clark University in Portland, OR has not had
any applicants for some time.  That amount could be up to $21,000.
